The job of field sales agents involves working outside the office environment sourcing potential customers and maximizing the sales of a company’s products or services. This is often done by cold calling, often knocking on doors or scheduling meetings at offices and other establishments. Representatives are also required to keep records and carry out market research. This data is further analyzed to maximize sales output.
Field sales representatives work in tandem with analysts, market researchers and tele callers in finding and convincing potential clients. They are often required to give detailed presentations about the various features of the product they are selling. For this purpose, they are required to be well aware of the product’s capabilities.

Field sales agents mostly travel to client locations. They go from house to house, travel to different locations or visit various companies. They do many different tasks to ‘get the sale’. They are required to be very motivated, self-sufficient and dependable. Also, they must be versatile, flexible and treat their clients with exceptional respect and care.
While no prior specialist education is required, a good grasp of the language and a basic understanding of human behavior is a very helpful skill to have for this job. The prior training about the product information is usually provided by the company beforehand.
